Gillette Company Limited has communicated P&G's decision to cease operations in Pakistan to Gillette Pakistan Limited, including its Board of Directors. The Board of Directors of Gillette Pakistan Limited will meet soon to assess the necessary actions for this termination, including, in appropriate circumstances, the potential delisting of Gillette Pakistan Limited from the Pakistan Stock Exchange in accordance with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

P&G entered Pakistan in 1991 and quickly grew into a leading fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) brand, encompassing categories such as personal care, household cleaning, and oral hygiene. Its flagship brands, including Pantene, Oral-B, Old Spice, and Pampers, have a wide reach in the Pakistani market.

Saad Amanullah Khan, an executive at Gillette Pakistan Limited (P&G's subsidiary focused on the Pakistan market), cited high energy costs, poor infrastructure, and a challenging business environment as key reasons for multinational companies' withdrawal from Pakistan.

Over the past few years, several multinational corporations have withdrawn from Pakistan. Furthermore, Procter & Gamble is in the midst of a global restructuring, with plans to cut 7,000 jobs and streamline its brand portfolio in response to weak consumption and trade pressures. P&G's withdrawal simply continues the trend of multinational corporations withdrawing from Pakistan and aligns with the group's strategic restructuring.

Earlier, P&G had already been shrinking its global presence, including completely withdrawing from Argentina, restructuring its Nigerian operations, selling the Sassoon brand and its related hair care business in Greater China, and discontinuing some of its local lines in Latin America and Europe.

P&G's announcement of its withdrawal from the Pakistani market quickly sparked widespread anxiety among local consumers about shortages of daily necessities like Pampers diapers, Gillette razors, Head & Shoulders shampoo, and Tide laundry detergent. Many users expressed concerns about the availability of essential items. Lahore resident Nadeem Khan said, "240 million Pakistanis still need soap, laundry detergent, and shaving cream. P&G's withdrawal makes no sense." An engineer in Islamabad said he had been unable to buy his usual Gillette razor for nearly three months, and that local alternatives were of inferior quality.
